What is ODI? As the number of people taking control of their health and wellness continues to increase, so does the number of mixed messages in the media. We are bombarded with everything from conflicting reports on scientific research to advertisements, each with proof supporting its claim. Often this information ends up causing more confusion than clarity, making the decision of what to do so overwhelming that many of us end up doing what we've always done—or even worse, nothing at all. Optimal Daily Intake (ODI) is a simple concept really. ODI addresses the questions we all ask ourselves every time we consider our nutritional program…am I getting all the nutrients, and in the proper amounts, I need for me to be the healthiest I can be? How ODi was developed Searching for the answers to the question of “what is optimal versus adequate nutrition” is a daunting task. So we decided to ask the experts in the nutrition field what their views are based on their latest research. We partnered with one of America's most respected polling agencies, Harris Interactive (The Harris Poll) in conjunction with Age Wave, a leading research group that specializes in helping to improve the quality of life for Baby Boomers and mature consumers, to conduct this survey. Leiner Health Products provided an educational grant for the completion of the ODi survey. The ODi survey We surveyed 100 of the nation's top nutrition experts, including medical doctors, researchers, and nutrition professionals from the nation's leading universities and research institutions, to uncover the optimal daily intake for 14 vital nutrients based on age, gender, and specific health conditions (such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, and osteoporosis). Based on their expert wisdom, the ODi survey led to an entirely new approach to nutrition and supplementation. The survey showed that each person has unique nutritional needs—men and women, young and mature, all need nutrients in different amounts to reach optimal health. In addition to this breakthrough approach, ODi is the first major survey to identify the optimal daily intake for selected nutrients in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and other diseases.See the ODi survey results.
